Noodles

Kelp noodles....almost completely void of nutrition...and taste.

However they look and feel like spaghetti and to any three year old, pasta is the most important thing in life, in any shape and form!!

When you add high fat pesto and some high fat meat to the mix and heat it up...you have a perfect Ketogenic Spaghetti meal.

Interesting... I never heard of kelp noodles. We use shiritaki noodles (made with tofu and yam flour). They're very chewy and don't have much flavour, either, but topped with ground beef, tomato sauce, veggies, and butter, they're still pretty tasty. It's one of Jade's most filling meals because the noodles are so low-carb.

Can you send me that recipe when you have time? I too am looking for "filling" meals. Have you had any luck finding bread type food??

Hey there! I just clued in that you were answering my comments on your blog -- duh, a little brain dead over here. No problem about the recipe. I actually have two -- they're very similar, but after I tried the first one once, I realized that it was so filling, Jade was actually having trouble finishing it! So I reduced the amount of noodles and increased the veggies, which made it a little less bulky.

Here's my first, more filling recipe. It's 272 calories at 4:1.

26 g 35% cream
30 g tofu shirataki noodles (Hungry Girl brand)
16 g Hunt's Original tomato sauce
5 g Vegetable 7
11.5 g 85% lean ground beef - cooked
20 g butter

It's a bit fiddly because there are so many ingredients, but you could alter it to make it simpler by taking out the Veg and boosting the tomato sauce. I sometimes add some of the cream to the sauce; other times I just leave it as a drink (mixed with a little water to increase Jade's fluid intake).

If you want to try the shiritaki noodles, you can order them from the "Miracle Noodles" website. Ours are a different brand -- some friends got them for me in Chinatown in Vancouver, which was easier than ordering stuff from the US. :)

If Abigail likes tuna, it's possible to make a tasty tuna salad by mixing tuna with mayo and butter. I even made one recipe that included chopped dill pickle and then wrapped in a lettuce leaf, which is fun to eat, though a wee bit messy.

Sorry for the long comment -- I know I went crazy creating new recipes for Jade at the beginning because she really didn't want to eat anything.
